Reconciliation is a wonderful sacrament that is a rich part of the Catholic faith.

This video presentation will highlight the seven main points of confession, and help prepare you for your first reconciliation.

There are seven main points of reconciliation: arrival and greeting, sign of the cross, confession of sins, penance, the act of contrition, absolution, goodbye and departure.

When you enter the confessional, greet the priest.

Begin the sacrament with the sign of the cross.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Begin by telling the priest what sins you have committed, where you have failed to love God or your neighbor, and any other problem you would like to talk about.

Remember that he will not tell anyone what you say.

The priest will tell you to do something or say some prayers to make up for your sins, but it is a good idea to have thought about it ahead of time so that you can suggest a penance for yourself that you think would help you to do better.

It is important that you are truly sorry and that you say you are sorry out loud.

This is done with the formal act of contrition, or with a prayer of sorrow you have made up.

The priest will then hold his hand on or over your head and say a prayer which will take away your sins and gives you added grace to be better.

At the end of absolution, be sure to thank the priest for his help, maybe shake his hand, and then leave.

Following your confession, be sure to do your penance.

Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.

It's been a month until I have done this.

Okay.

Um, I've been very selfish to my sister and brother.

Mm-hmm.

I did not clean my room when my mom told me to.

Well, that's a good confession.

Okay?

And, uh, how many sisters and brothers do you have?

Um, I have two sisters and one brother.

Okay.

Well, you know, for your penance, I want you to pray for them, okay?

Okay.

So why don't you pray three Hail Marys, one for each of them, okay?

Okay.

And that'll make up for the times when you guys maybe fought and, and didn't get along well.

Okay?

Okay.

All right.

Would you like to pray the act of contrition?

Okay.

May Father, Son, Holy Spirit, amen.

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

May Father, Son, Holy Spirit, amen.

Very good.

Now I'll give you absolution, okay?

God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of His Son has reconciled the world to Himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins.

Through the ministry of the Church, may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
